For many years, politicians have deprioritized Swedish society in favor of tax cuts, globalization, and privatizations. That path has now reached its end, and Sweden needs a government that focuses on major investments, security, social cohesion, and strong public institutions.

This autumn’s parliamentary election is the most serious in several decades. For a long time, the world has been moving in the wrong direction, and now geopolitics is shifting for the worse. Conflicts and great-power ambitions are simmering. It is more important than ever that Sweden builds a strong society that is resilient and that works for the broad majority of the population.

We workers stand ready to do what is required.

Are our politicians ready to do the same?

Fastighets has put forward three concrete demands that we present to every politician we meet.

1. Take up the fight against labor market crime!

According to the Swedish Tax Agency, the shadow economy accounts for roughly five percent of Sweden’s GDP. That amounts to several hundred billion kronor that could instead be used for welfare, infrastructure, housing construction, defense, water systems, and more. We demand that politicians step up, just as we in Fastighets have done, and help combat labor market crime.

2. Abolish the qualifying deduction for sick pay!

The qualifying deduction in all its forms is deeply unjust and unnecessary legislation. It only affects people who cannot work from home, and it primarily impacts the working class as well as teachers, police officers, and others. No one should be financially penalized because of their profession. The qualifying deduction must be abolished.

3. Ensure decent pensions for working people!

The retirement age is being raised, but the durability of our bodies is not. We now demand that policymakers address the pension issue and ensure that people who cannot keep working until the age of 70 can still have a dignified old age. We in Fastighets have taken major responsibility in this matter by negotiating part-time pension solutions, but the state must also do its part.
